January 2026 - Present

1. Established a dark factory pattern for locally hosted agentic development using Gemini frontier models. Implemented strict security and code-quality protocols to guide agentic workflows, resulting in high-quality, testable, lint-free pull requests through a shared local LLM context.
2. Overhauled the geospatial projection system: integrated d3-geo, NumPy, and SciPy to perform complex geographic mappings and projections for world generation features (tectonics, math engines).
3. Built a high-performance, interactive mapping UI: developed a React frontend leveraging paper.js for canvas rendering, implementing complex map features such as fog of war, modular floating toolbars, and dynamic layers.
4. Engineered an asynchronous geoprocessing pipeline: designed and deployed a task-queue architecture using Redis and ARQ to handle heavy tectonic math calculations and Voronoi cell generation in the background.
5. Optimized deployment and infrastructure: streamlined AWS ECS deployments and database configurations using Bitbucket Pipelines, standardizing deployment variables and improving CI/CD reliability.

1. Architected Synchrony's partner-facing integration solutions, designing enterprise workflows at scale in a composable MFE architecture backed by Spring Boot API microservices for patient lookup and underwriting.
2. Led a team of thirty developers and QA resources, managing an onshore-offshore development process while building out a technical roadmap.
3. Championed better documentation, metrics, and automation by guiding pipelines, curating AI context and intent business rules, and increasing automated test coverage.
4. Architected the transition of Synchrony's partner-facing API and product suite to an enterprise-grade suite of platform services.
5. Modernized Spring Boot APIs and webhooks to provide robust, scalable APIs.
6. Oversaw my department's portion of a phased migration from on-premises PCF services to AWS.

March 2022 - February 2023

1. Saved an overworked MySQL database by building an event-streaming model that pushed the latest versions of business objects to downstream consumers.
2. Worked on the external platform team to implement event streaming in Kafka and Confluent, interfacing with every department to validate and prove out the organic data model. Partnered with stakeholders to deliver event streaming that satisfied high-scale, critical business requirements.
3. Ensured atomicity and uptime by reading outbox changes (Debezium CDC) on a replica and dispatching messages to internal topics, which then used serialized, multi-threaded processors to "hydrate" data and send it to customer-facing consumers.
4. Built a multi-service architecture in Docker and Terraform to manage the heavy event-stream stack (ZooKeeper, Debezium, Kafka). Development environments spun up the stack through Docker Compose, and downstream environments managed their own configuration.
5. Built a performant hash-bashed event queue to aggregate many changes to related business models into a single event record.
6. Wrote an extensive suite of unit and integration tests covering many different types of dynamic object models.
7. Managed a team of contractors delivering documentation, unit tests, and event streams for many business objects built on Elation's Django ORM models.

May 2020 - March 2022

1. Served as DesignMind's resident AWS and Azure smoke jumper, brought in to solve major platform problems.
2. Deployed .NET Core and Java applications to Azure resource groups using App Service and Azure Container Services. Set up containerized environments running Cosmos DB and managed their secrets through Key Vault.
3. Led the technical implementation as DevOps engineer and sysadmin for a financial company's acquisition. The previous platform admins had left a decaying mess of insecure, unpatched, disconnected AWS Windows instances running Windows 2012 R2 with no central management, and I was called in to:
   • Modernize their AWS infrastructure by implementing CodeDeploy, AWS Systems Manager, and New Relic.
   • Roll out a suite of security software including Zscaler, Qualys, and CrowdStrike.
   • Fix the myriad vulnerabilities the security software discovered by rolling out centralized updates through Active Directory and AWS SSM.
   • Rebuild the previous production servers — which had brittle configurations — as custom AMI images with Sysprep and user data, so replicas could be configured and launched dynamically under load balancing.

January 2019 - May 2020

1. Led the implementation of their AlienVault security platform. Investigated vendors, proposed the platform to management, then deployed the sensors that locked down their AWS platform and ensured HIPAA compliance.
2. Built a stateless scoring backend service that gathered heterogeneous health information about a user and awarded points on dynamic criteria. By streaming and parallelizing multiple requests and using Lambda functions to transform them into scores, Provata could calculate a user's vitals on the fly in under 20 milliseconds.
3. Helped people get healthy by integrating their vitals data into Provata's health platform.
4. Engineered a RESTful microservices architecture using Jersey, implementing testable, idempotent fat services while optimizing the Gradle build process.
5. Developed features from mock to production across the entire stack: created the database schema in Liquibase, wrote back-end code in Java, served the API endpoints via Node.js, and delivered responsive front-end code for web and mobile via React and React Native.
6. Implemented an in-memory caching solution to relieve bottlenecks. Kept it simple, and made it faster by not hammering the database every time we needed to check account information.

1. Stopped worrying and learned to love Docker and Docker Compose. Why yes, I will store my entire service configuration in a YAML file that auto-builds and pulls in dependencies with virtual networking and environment variables. <3
2. Heated up the production CPUs a couple of times, but never caused a major outage deploying code to a very large user base. (Once or twice — but I was on pager duty and led the RCAs.)
3. Realized pixel-perfect, snappy UIs for millions of users using Angular and React.
4. Built RESTful microservices in Node.js. Verbs, plural entities, versioned endpoints, CORS-compatible.
5. Designed, architected, and led a project to centralize Invision's permissions.
6. Made constant improvements to the entire development stack.
7. Chipped away at the constant glacier of TDD, implementing full unit and integration testing.
8. Begrudgingly learned ColdFusion to help support legacy apps.
9. Got really good at Git, Codeship, Karma, and Chai. Went from "git-diot" to the dude you call when you need to rebase that long-running feature branch.
10. Debugged complex client-side applications by modifying headers and watching hundreds of requests in the network tab.
11. Resolved cross-browser compatibility challenges across all major platforms, ensuring a consistent user experience despite varying browser engines.
